Gatorade the worst sports drink on the market?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: sports drink

Im a swimmer and wrestler.

Is Gatorade any good for you because is contains HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP with I heard isnt the best for you.

Is Accelerade better because it does not contain it?
The sugar content is less then Gatorade and a little sugar isn't bad for an athlete
as a POST/ DURING drink

All sports drinks have some sugar in them. It really depends on what kind of sugar is involved, however, that makes the difference.

In fact, Gatorade contains no HFCS. It contains a blend of simple sugars (supposedly) designed for maximum absorption in minimum time, which does follow a certain science. What it does contain is a blend of glucose, sucrose and fructose syrups, which is much better for you than drinks which contain HFCS:

http://www.bevnet.com/reviews/gatorade/facts.asp

Accelerade contains only sucrose, which must be broken down in the body into glucose in order to be utilized, which will create a slower absorption rate than gatorade. It also contains a small amount of whey protein which will aid a little bit in recovery but not enough to be significant, and certainly it's not something that's going to help in the middle of high activity levels such as a foot or bike race. During activity, proteins won't be utilized for protein as much as it will be converted to glucose for energy (and would likely give me a side stitch).

So for its intended use, gatorade is actually an excellent choice; for fast absorbing energy, electrolyte and hydration replacement during high levels of activity or post workout (Accelerade would be fine post workout but not so much during the activity). But it won't necessarily be the best thing in the world at other times.

Other sports drinks really are non-carbonated soft drinks, loaded with junk and having little actual usefulness or nutritional value.

What do you think is the best kind of sports drink?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: sports drink

I have tried Gatorade, Powerade, and Vitamin water.
Don't know which one works best.
What's your opinion?

Gatorade does replace all that you lose from sweat however it has too much sugar. if you just wanna drink for taste try propel less sugar good taste

What is the effect of having a high energy sports drink after a virgorous exercise?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: sports drink

Pliz elaborate and give some relevant examples

Thier said to hydrate you (all brands) its cheaper and better for you to just drink water, and alot of it. Cuase you DO NOT NEED all those sugurs that are in a energy drink

Whats a really good sports drink for athletes?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: sports drink

Im a endurance runner and want something than just Gatorade and Powerade. Credit they taste perfect but its too sugary in my opinion. I recently bought a small can of Endurox Accelerade and its just HORRID tasting. Its lemon lime and its almost like some old medicine I took when I was a kid.

That depends on how long of a run you're doing… Real endurance running can actually be bad for your health so you need no sugar or artificial sugar, and lots of electrolites. It takes a major tole on your immune system and can take weeks to recover. This is because you lose salt, and the balance between salt and water is lost. Drinking too much water during or around the period while you run can actually be more dangerous than dehydration. You should drink ahead of your thurst, rather than when you get thirsty.

For medium types of endurance running like say 15-20 miles, you should just use plain water, and make sure you're on a healthy diet.

For hard endurance running drink water with electrolites before you run, and VERY moderatly during your run, like less than a cup per 10 miles.

why do people drink sports drink? nothing is better than water because it is natural and has supported life.?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: sports drink

i think it is bad because what is the point of drinking when it is mostly sugar. I hate all the sports drink commericails that show famous athlets to drink it. they only drink it because THEY ARE PAID TO
i understand athleats can use this stuff but the majority of people buying these are kids sitting home doing nothing getting obese from sugar

Sports drinks replace lost sodium and potassium as well as provide carbohydrates to help an athlete recover.

Water is good, but too much during a workout is bad for you.

EDIT: I only drink them occasionally, and no more than one a day. Military PT is rough, and the carbs and electrolytes help me recover faster so I can go to work and stay awake.

Would gatorade or other sports drink help me from my dehydration from diarrhea?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: sports drink

I’ve been dehydrated and water is not helping…
Oral rehydration therapy contains electrolytes too… so do they work the same?

Yes! You need electrolytes, which can be found in sports drinks (like gatorade and powerade) and in pedialyte, which does not, by the way, taste like crap (just tastes like juice).
Water does not contain electrolytes, which is why it’s not helping you much.

When playing sports (such as soccer) is it bad to drink a sports drink? (such as Gatorade)?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: sports drink

Is drinking gatorade bad when playing sports? or is it beneficial………..or is water the best thing to drink?

….doesnt the sports drink boost ones-self with energy?

Sports drinks replace electrolytes, as well as, fluid. Unless you are playing at, or near, the highest level of soccer, or in extreme conditions (including weather, but also game conditions), water is enough to replenish fluid loss during a match.

Many sports drinks have sugar, which will give you a temporary boost (about 15 minutes tops), but after that time, it will have a negative effect - sugar crash.
